Why Did I Perfect the Double Reins?

While searching for a method to control the horse’s vertical head movement and horizontal head movement at the same time the “Double Reins” allows you to use only one movement with your hands to achieve this.  If he moves contrary to the adjustment of the double reins (each horse has his own adjustment according to his physique) he will find himself in an uncomfortable position and out of collection.  You might ask, “why collection”?  What does it mean?  In layman’s terms by collecting the horses head and neck you also control his entire body.  His body follows his head which makes his walk smoother while shortening his stride and this permits a more up and down movement while moving forward.  When you trot or lope with his stride being shorter this will smoothen his ride which makes it safer for both you and your horse while at the same time not hurting him.  Using the “Double Reins” will achieve collection in a fraction of the time than the old conventional way.  I use the Down Under Australian style saddle from Down Under Saddle Supply at downunderweb.com.  I have been using this combination, the Down Under Australian Saddle and my Double Reins for approximately nineteen years with the first eight or nine years of not knowing anyone at this company.  The comfort of the Down Under Australian Saddle is so superior to any other saddle that I have ever ridden in my 50 years of training horses.  I have coupled the Australian saddle with my double reins which make riding more comfortable and safer for both you and your horse.  For those that put safety and control first you can take my technique with my double reins and refer back to the traditional western riding, English or any other form of riding with more confidence.  For those of you that are interested in my technique I have an eight lesson DVD that was televised on RFD TV a couple of years ago.  To get a free sample of one of the eight lessons you can refer back to my home page and click on the video which shows a before and after.  The DVD is a step by step explanation of my technique at a price that is affordable to all.  It will cost you less than ten dollars a lesson and would be an asset to your library of horse knowledge.  It starts with the horse’s herd instinct, language and how to communicate with him through all stages of riding.  You could get into the précised explanation of how collection works involving the vertebrae’s of the horse’s neck or you may want to know the inter-workings of the horses body but to simplify collection use my bungee cord rein and adjust it as per instructions and your horse can collect himself in a matter of hours without ever hurting him.  Then after he is adjusted you can install and adjust the two leather reins through twin rollers and let the equipment do the job for you so that you can concentrate on leg and hand movement in order to have a smoother and safer ride.

I have dedicated my life trying to understand the horse, his life, and how he looks at me and exactly what I need to do to communicate with him.  You need to understand his world and how he looks at life.  First and foremost, you need to know about his herd instinct that he was born with.  The herd has one leader and everyone else follows.  When the horse is frightened or surprised his immediate instinct is to flee. A lot depends on how much he has been exposed to man.  If he has been exposed all or most of his life he is less prone to be surprised by a sudden noise or an unusual scent or sight.  He depends on you to guide him but when you first start to ride him all of that changes because he does not have the security of you guiding him or so he thinks.  That’s why it is so important that your actions and your ability will make him feel secure and comfortable.  All the while knowing you must take the lead as his instincts are that one must lead and make sure that one is you.  He will test you constantly; you want to be his friend but not at the expense of losing your leadership.

It is a big help if you are following a technique that has been proven much like a carpenter building a house, he must have a technique and a plan and above all the proper tools.  There are so many carpenters which do you choose?  Personally, I would choose the one with the most experience and has built a lot of houses and one with a proven record and old enough to have been exposed to many different techniques and pick the one best suited for him.  A honest horse trainer will always let you be present while he is working and training your horse, but remember he is training your horse his way but that won’t do you much good that is why you must train your own horse.

I have helped thousands of folks just like you.  My technique and the double reins that I use help me collect my horse in such a way that he moves in sync with you.  He alone will move his own way but with you on his back you must teach him a more comfortable way of moving because remember he has your weight and the saddle and a bit in his mouth running from his mouth to your hands.  That is why your hands must be very delicate in order not to hurt him.  That is where my double reins come in.
