About Al Ragusin

An important message to fans of the show

As you may know, “Train Your Own Horse with Al Ragusin” is no longer being broadcast on RFD TV. The initial contract called for a total of eight shows, and the series was completed in June of 2006.

While the production staff and I would like to continue with RFD TV, the show does not currently have a major sponsor, and subsequently the show has not been scheduled for another season. We are therefore unable to produce an entire season of new shows, as required by the network.

Because many people have not had the opportunity to view the original series on RFD TV, I have decided to rebroadcast them on my website free of charge.

Each week a new episode will be available on the website, and you may find it helpful to watch the videos in sequence since each episode relates to the lessons included in the previous episodes.

Additionally, we will soon be producing new episodes for online broadcast, which will air after the original eight videos.

If you would like to add this series to your own video library, you may purchase the entire video series online in DVD format.

Al and DancerAl Ragusin is a man in love with horses. His entire life has been centered around this dedication for horses. From an early age he saved his money and, at 16, bought his first horse.

By the early ’60s, Al was competing in nation wide horse shows and rodeos. Since then he has won over 300 awards and trophies for reining, cutting, western pleasure, and halter.

Al’s lessons in dressage are in line with the style of the legendary Colonel Porlanski from the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. He is defined today as a champion charro, which is a Mexican cowboy, and also as a rejaneador, a bullfighter on horseback. However, He’s proud of his love for animals and takes great pride in having only fought Portuguese-style, which are bloodless bull fights.

Al loves being a horseman. He loves getting into the mind of his horses, so that he, the man and the horse the animal can work together as one.

In 1979 Al and Sheba, a beautiful Arabian started yet another journey. They began dancing together. After three long, timely years, he and Sheba were ready to perform. They started with an invitation to Charro Days, in Brownsville Texas and soon they were performing all across Texas and across the United States.
